This whole year so far has seemed like a whirlwind. Some of you know me in "real life", some of you may just know me through my photography. Either way, you're about to get to know me better!
In December of 2020, my husband turned 50. He decided to get a "real" Dr. (up until then he had just been going to walk in clinics). In March, he was having some small issues and since his mom had cancer and he was 50, his Dr. sent him for a colonoscopy. Because of covid precautions, I had to wait in the car - I fully expected the Dr. to call me with an update saying he found a few polyps and everything was fine and see you in five years. Instead, he told me what he found was very serious. So bad in fact, he couldn't even finish the colonoscopy because the amount of "mass" he found. I was dumbfounded at the time and didn't even really grasp what he was saying until I read the printed report. We of course did a lot of waiting, followed by a lot more test. Just a quick summary from March 2021 until now - he did MANY rounds of chemotherapy - which included taking chemo home in a bag (a fanny pack to be exact) followed by and combined with radiation. We learned more than we ever cared to about the many precautions involving chemo. It's been very hard to plan anything because he ended up with a LOT more problems than just the cancer. He ended up having a pace maker put in, numerous kidney stents, a blood clot, infections, etc.
When you own your own business most, if not all, of the responsibilities fall on you - so it's been hard juggling sickness, appointments, taxes, and all of the things - not counting my little farm and kids! These past few months I've had to go to Saturday and Sunday only sessions because radiation is every day of the week. When we first went to the surgeon for the cancer - the cancer was too big to operate on (which is why he did chemo and radiation before surgery), but we understood him to say once we got through the chemo and radiation that the surgery would be a breeze. Last week, we went back to see the surgeon now that the "hard part" is over. We weren't too nervous going in and he has been excited about going back to work and I was excited about being able to go back to photography full time. Our bubble was burst by the time we walked out.
On November 16 he will have a very serious surgery that will involve 2 surgeons and a robot. It was be several hours long with several days stay in the hospital and he will come home with an ileostomy bag for at least 6 weeks along with home health. He's been out of work since April and I've been barely working so I have planned a few events in these few weeks leading up to the surgery. Photography has always been an "outlet" for me. When I'm working I forget whatever else is going on around me, so even though I am not able to do a whole lot in the small amount of time between now and surgery, I am looking forward to creating!
So there's an update on my personal life and a heads up on if you see me M.I.A. in a few weeks you will know why! Please be patient with me on returning calls, messages, etc. I do plan on getting back to work as soon as possible after we get the hang of things once he gets home - so keep us in your prayers and in the meantime, check out my upcoming events! Of course I can't make a blog without pictures because obviously, I'm a visual person so here's a few of what our lives have looked like these past few months and a few from today on my little farm!
