I'm back from SYNC and it was AMAZING! The whole conference had such a positive message and one of the main topics that all the speakers hit on in one way or another was the power we as photographers have in people's lives! There were many stories shared of empowering women through photographs, making teenagers see themselves as beautifully as their mothers (and the rest of the world!) see them, preserving family history, raising money for various organizations through photography, and many more!
I am still trying to process (and unpack!) everything that I have learned and write ideas down (I have a contest in mind coming up so be sure you are following me on Instagram and Facebook!), but the main thing I took away from this conference was the realization that making a better "me" is going to flow over into making my business better and making a better "you"!
I'm going to revisit my list from my last post and share some pictures (because just a check marked list would be boring!)
- SWAG - I got all kinds of cool stuff! (See picture!) - I loved that they had buttons you could pick out to wear on your name badge - anyone that knows me knows that I love the movie "Office Space" and all I could think about is how much flair I should be wearing
- Vicki Taufer (see picture) - She was just as amazing as I thought she would be! She has a cool camper that even has its own Instagram account! I ended up also loving Kay Eskridge just as much though! I felt like we could be real life friends! She was funny and loves glitter!
- Friends - I did make a friend! (See picture) It was on the first night and I was thankful to find someone that was also there alone since everyone else seemed to be in their own group! Her name is Christine and she lives in Florida and we had quite a bit in common!
- Recharge - Even though each day was packed from morning to night I was able to get up each morning and sit out on the balcony and drink my coffee and read my Bible - we also went to the beach for just a little bit between the rain and I connected emotionally with a fat little squirrel on my way to class one morning :) The San Destin property was beautiful and the best part was the building we stayed in (and the conference center) was in walking distance of Baytowne Wharf which had restaurants and shops and beautiful scenery as well
- Seafood - We ate at Bubba Gump's one night - and I did have fish, but to me the "box" restaurants isn't "real" seafood, BUT we also ended up eating at Gilligan's Seafood Restaurant and I had catfish and coconut shrimp and it was SO good! Gilligans Seafood
- Contest - l did not win the contest :( I did score "above average" on the print I entered in the print competition though!
